Jeddah Central signs MoU with Ajlan & Bros and Waterise

Jeddah Central Development Company (JCDC), the master developer of the Jeddah Central Project and a wholly-owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Waterise, a global leader in developing sustainable water infrastructure, and Ajlan & Bros Holding Group, one of the leading investment conglomerates in the Middle East, to study the development and implementation of a new water desalination technology that would make a shift in the desalination industry.

JCDC seeks to develop and implement this new water desalination technology to achieve one of the company's goals related to sustainable development, and in line with the objectives of the Vision 2030 to protect and enhance the natural environment, in addition to the objectives of the Public Investment Fund to benefit from the natural capabilities of the Kingdom to develop the service facilities sector and renewable energy, while reducing the carbon footprint, and contributing to achieving the goals of the National Water Strategy to provide a sustainable water sector that develops and preserves water resources.

CEO of Jeddah Central Development Company, Eng. Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Al-Saleem, stated that water desalination technologies have been used on a large scale and over many years, and have had a vital role in continuing the rapid population growth and urban expansion in the Gulf region, expressing his aspiration through this new partnership with Waterise and Ajlan & Bros Holding Group, to turn Jeddah into a pioneer in the field of water safety in the coming years, especially since the unique geographical location of Jeddah on the Red Sea coast makes it ideally suited for the application of this advanced seawater desalination technology.

For his part, the CEO of Ajlan & Bros Holding Group, Eng. Ali Abdul Rahman Al Hazmi, stressed the importance of this advanced technology and its role in the continued prosperity of the Kingdom, pointing out that the urban planning and infrastructure model implemented by the Jeddah Central Development Company that will pave the way for the development of many other projects across the Kingdom.

CEO of Waterise, Niles Peter Wright affirmed the company's commitment to sustainability in its activities that are compatible with the environment, and to invest in it in order to bring benefits to our customers and our communities.

The advanced desalination system offered by Waterise is distinguished by its combination of reverse osmosis (RO) technology (a purification process that uses semi-permeable membranes to isolate pollutants), and another advanced technology in which the equipment used is completely submerged under the sea surface, as this system will contribute to reducing coastal land use significantly, while also reduces the environmental impact and emissions resulting from all operations, by reducing the discharge of concentrated brine into coastal waters.

In its advanced technology, Waterise takes advantage of the hydrostatic pressure feature, which is the natural pressure in the deep-sea, which leads to a reduction in the energy consumption required for water desalination by up to 50%, and the low organic content in the deep-sea water used in the primary desalination process will also contribute to the sustainability and benefits of the project in general.
